This model allows donors, or an external body (established in the fund’s founding documents), to play a role in directing or informing both the Fund’s strategy and grant-making decisions, while maintaining alignment with the SJI’s mission and values.

    Approve the Fund strategy formulated by the SJI. Donors can also propose a funding strategy (subject to SJI input and approval).

    Participate in, and sign-off, grantee selection.

    Ensure alignment with the SJI’s mission and values.

    Formulate strategy, identify candidate grantees, conduct initial grantee evaluations, oversee compliance and facilitate grant disbursement.

    The SJI Board ratifies funding decisions against founding agreement and authorises the release of funds.

    Regardless of the model, donors may not interfere with the operations or governance of the SJI or its grantee partners.

  • Transparency and reporting

    Donors receive reports on grant distribution and fund impact.
